Entertain the kids this summer in Duluth

Duluth schools are OUT! Are you celebrating the summer ahead? Or are you cringing, wondering how you’re going to keep the kids busy for three long months? We have put together a list of unique local activities to keep them, and you, entertained all summer long.

Watch Movies Under the Stars

What could be better than weekly movies on a giant screen with Lake Superior as the backdrop? Movies in the Park take place in Leif Erickson Park every Friday, July 12th through August 30th (weather permitting). You can find the full selection of movies on the Greater Downtown Council website.

Hunt for Agates

Kiddos love collecting agates along the shores of Lake Superior. Brighton Beach in Kitchi Gammi Park is one of our favorite local peaceful hunting locations.

Cave to the Creamery

Love Creamery radiates local flavors and sustainable ingredients in their Lincoln Park location. Take advantage of those warm Duluth days and treat the kids to handcrafted ice cream and sorbets.

Play on the Bay

Playfront on the Bay is Duluth’s largest playground and is open year-round to children of all ages. The play equipment is designed to enhance balance, coordination, and strength. Bring the kids outside to do what they love to do, PLAY.

Watch the Races

Embrace the sailing lifestyle each Wednesday at 6:00pm while watching the Duluth Yacht Club Sailboat Races. Dependent on weather and the race schedule, sailboats race throughout open Lake Superior or in the Twin Ports Harbor. Viewing spots can be found in various locations around Duluth.

Feel the Wind and the Waves

View Duluth from a new perspective on-board the Vista Fleet. Kids love seeing 1,000-foot international freighters up close. Cruise options include Sightseeing Tours, Pizza Cruises, Captain’s Table Lunches, and so much more. Travel under the Aerial Lift Bridge (weather permitting) and explore the Twin Ports Harbor first-hand.

Be Pirates aboard the Tall Ships

The Festival of Sail is coming back to Duluth, August 11th-13th. See the tall ships and the World’s Largest Rubber Duck up close. The festival features ship tours, day sails, entertainment, and so much more. Gates open at 9:00am and close at 5:00pm each day. It is highly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance.

Experience the Wonder of Aviation

The largest airshow in Minnesota, the Duluth Airshow, is back in action July 20th-21st with the United States Navy Blue Angels and the United States Air Force F-35 Lightning headlining the show. Performers execute jaw-dropping stunts that you and the kids won’t want to miss.

Be Active

Grandma’s Marathon offers a variety of youth races throughout the summer to encourage the kids to get out and be active. Or help them discover yoga, breath, body awareness, and relaxation through Runa Yoga’s 5-Week Kid Yoga Sessions. They also offer a special session for teenagers!

Snack with the Best View

Our friends at Lakewalk Galley have recently opened up a new patio sitting area overlooking the gorgeous views of Lake Superior and the bustle of Canal Park. Offerings include convenient boardwalk cuisine, wine, and local beer. Open Thursday through Monday in the heart of Canal Park alongside the Lakewalk.
