The field trip package includes a self-guided tour of the William A. Irvin, a retired steel-hulled freighter that has been turned into a museum. The Irvin, named after William A. Irvin, a captain on the Great Lakes, has a rich history and offers an intriguing glimpse into life on the Great Lakes during the 20th century. Students will be able to explore the ship and discover the different areas of the vessel, such as the bridge, the engine room, and the crew quarters, while also learning about the various systems that keep the ship running.
After the tour, students will embark on a Vista Fleet waterfront cruise, where they will have the chance to take in the beautiful sights and learn about the important role that ships play in our global economy and the Great Lakes region. They will be able to witness the hustle and bustle of commercial shipping and learn about the various types of cargo that ships carry, all while enjoying the beautiful views of the lake.
